A parent participation nursery school is a school where parents spend class time with the children, perform school job functions, attend parent education events, help to fundraise for the school, and generally keep the school well maintained and running smoothly. All of this keeps the tuition rates low, relative to programs with paid administration positions, and keeps the teachers focused on the children and the curriculum. Parent participation programs provide a rich environment with many advantages, including a high adult-to-child ratio (less than 3 children to one adult.) Because parents care about their child’s environment, they are invested naturally in the school, and are able to contribute their many talents and strengths to continuously improving the school year after year. Parents choose a job function that they are comfortable with, from making play dough or doing school laundry to managing the school Facebook page or collecting tuition. Parents interested in being integral in decision-making may choose a position on the MVPNS board of directors.
